Ella I've been back in Vegas for just about fourteen days now and things are acceptable. I pursued some late spring craftsmanship classes and my entry level position at the gallery is extraordinary, despite the fact that I go through the vast majority of my day tidying up after individuals and getting things done. I additionally began advising. As much as I'd prefer to trust I was improving, when only i'm and lost in my own musings, the obscurity now and again gets to me. Yet, my specialist is decent and the visits appear to help. Lila is letting me acquire her vehicle for the end of the week, so I can drive back home and get together with Dean and my father. I'm happy to make the drive alone, that way I'll have twelve hours to intellectually set myself up. Albeit, where it counts, I wish Micha was going with me. â€Å"Are you sure you don't need me to go with you,† Lila solicits as I grab the handle from my bag and output the space for overlooked things. I shake my head. â€Å"I'll be fine and you have classes and your math coach thing.† I stop at the entryway, expecting to get something out into the open. â€Å"Lila, thank you for letting me acquire your vehicle and for simply being there for me.† Her grin is brilliant. â€Å"Don't get all tearful on me. You're just going to be away for a few days, silly.† We giggle, leaving the structure and head down the steps. Our loft is directly by the grounds and we keep Lila's vehicle in the parking area more often than not. At the point when we arrive at the grass that compasses over the grounds, my telephone begins to sing inside my pocket, a dismal turned glad melody. â€Å"God, again?† Lila tosses her head back significantly. â€Å"Can't both of you go five minutes without conversing with each other?† â€Å"No.† I grin and pick up the telephone as Lila hurries away, giving us some security. â€Å"So how's the climate in Seattle?† â€Å"Pretty radiant, actually,† Micha says and I can hear the grin in his voice. I yank on my roll away sack as it gets trapped in a gap in the garden. â€Å"That's amusing, on the grounds that I thought it should be stormy there.† â€Å"Nope, I got a blue sky and one serious part of daylight over my head,† he says. â€Å"And I'm truly appreciating the view.† â€Å"Good, I'm glad,† I let him know, missing him like there's no tomorrow. â€Å"Are you despite everything driving around here next weekend?† â€Å"Actually there's been a slight difference in plans,† he answers. â€Å"And I can't come out next weekend.† I stop in the grass, moping. â€Å"Oh. Okay.† He chuckles delicately into the telephone. â€Å"You know, you're lovely when you mope like that.† â€Å"How do you know I'm pouting?† I wonder. â€Å"The same way that I realize you have a provocative pair of shorts on and your hair is done up,† he says and I begin to look around the grounds at the individuals strolling around in the quad and on the walkways. â€Å"Your ass looks great, by the way.† I let my bag proceed to turn around with the wireless still to my ear. At that point I spot him in the parking area, remaining close to a SUV in dark pants, a tight-fitted dim tee, and eyes as blue as the sky. I drop my telephone and rush to him, not caring that individuals are gazing at me like I'm crazy. I don't back off when I contact him and he gets me as I run into his arms. He gets me and I secure my legs around him, kissing him with so much energy his lip ring cuts into my lip. At long last we pull back, gasping with crude ferocity in our eyes. He tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear. â€Å"You didn't think I was going to release you back home all alone, did you?† â€Å"But you said you needed to play this weekend.† â€Å"They can do one execution without me. This is more important.† I nearly begin to cry and he starts to freeze. â€Å"Ella May, what's wrong?† he inquires. â€Å"This is something worth being thankful for, isn't it?† â€Å"Yes, it is† I state, gazing at him. â€Å"I love you.† He grins and murmurs, â€Å"I love you, too,† before reconnecting his lips with mine. We kiss each other profoundly, not caring that individuals are watching and murmuring regarding us. To them we're only two individuals making out in the parking area, making a scene. They'll never truly realize what it took to arrive. How long were contributed, yet that is alright. It's a mystery between us.

Gendered Stereo In Fashion Term Paper - 1375 Words

Gendered Stereo In Fashion (Term Paper Sample) Content: GENDERED STEREOTYPES IN FASHIONName:Institutional Affiliation:Date:Gender can be defined as the legal or social status of being boy or girl, or even man or woman (Chapman, 1998, 7). How one feels or expresses about their gender is referred to as gender identity (Chapman, 1998, 7). Masculinity and femininity is far much determined by culture by defining gender roles (Chapman, 1998, 9). Gender stereotyping has especially trickled down to the fashion industry (De Zegher, 1996, 13).No matter how much people may try to prove otherwise, it is undoubtedly true that fashion is a two gendered activity. However there has lately been the trend of production of unisex garments (De Zegher, 1996, 22). Retails shops are however, being divided into men's and women's sections or even separate shops for each. For instance the case of production of T-shirts has raised concern. People would prefer buying T-shirts basing their choice on color, style or size. The retailers have however ado pted the trend of forcibly luring men or women to purchase from their delegated men or women shops (Chapman, 1998, 57). As a matter of fact, many women would feel more comfortable in large t-shirts with a suitable color as opposed to the tight ones that have been stereotyped as theirs (De Zegher, 1996, 60).Of late, fashion has been deemed to dictate on what each gender is supposed to wear. However, this was not the case years ago. For instance, bright colors and frills were open to be worn by either gender but the same are specified for women in this 21st century. Pink, for instance, was worn by children of any gender until the 1940s when the color was stereotyped for girls (Chapman, 1998, 64). 1n 1960s corsets were not only for ladies but also worn by those men who craved to have athletic figures, unlike presently where they have been stereotyped as women's (Chapman, 1998, 65). In the 19th century, wealthy men were also fond of wearing heels and stockings that are nowadays mostly m arketed for girls and women (Chapman, 1998, 65).What women and men wear have differed greatly but at times they resemble greatly. A recent exhibition at the New York's Museum sought to explore the changes in the masculine and feminine wear over the years. The exhibition was dubbed "His and Hers" (Crane, 2001, 154). Changes in the cultural structure and practices could account for the changes in the fashion trends. Fashion could therefore be an influence itself putting cultural factors aside. Designers could have contributed to the stereotypes in the fashion industry (De Zegher, 1996, 69). Culture could have played the role of altering or transforming people's attitudes and fashion taking the advantage of engraving its sentiments into their minds. The manufacturers and designers in the fashion industry are not the only ones who are taking advantage of the existent assumptions on gender, but also the advertisers too have sought not to work hard enough but rather exploit the same (De Ze gher, 1996, 101). They have exploited the stereotypes on traditional ideas to convince their clients on what men and women should wear. Androgyny is a trend as earlier mentioned but some critics would stage opposition against the advertisement of clothing that is for both men and women (Crane, 2001, 39). Magazines have currently adopted the androgynous trend by featuring cross-dressing codes in their fashion pages. However, most fashion press is mostly inclined into feminism. They have more pleasure for showcasing feminine outfits to the disadvantage of the masculine outfits. It therefore leads to the notion that there is no definite attire for men as it is for women (Efrat, 1995, 69). Masculine attire can be termed as good and universally accepted as that. It observed that casual attire for men can be viewed as unisex especially when photos of them are taken without bodies in them. The feminine wear is however seen as feminine and nothing more (De Zegher, 1996, 98).It is sarcastic that no everybody feels comfortable with the roles that the culture assigns them but the same people will find it rather a tough task to choose clothing that does not fit to the gender that culture has accorded them (Crane, 2001, 23). However, in attempt to revert the stereotype on men gendered dressing, several designers have had men to wear feminine clothes rather than restrict themselves to the menswear only (De Zegher, 1996, 68). The stereotype is that men can only wear feminine clothes for comic purposes but designers have sought to prove otherwise (Crane, 2001, 79).The increase in the production of gender neutral clothes can be attributed their demand by the people who do not fall in the categories of masculine and feminine (Crane, 2001, 77). Most online stores for instance, do not only have masculine and feminine stores only but also the unisex department. This is especially a trend in America. Most of what designers and manufacturers are doing is producing traditionally acce pted clothing for a specific gender and then tailoring it to be unisex (Efrat, 1995, 88).The photo above is among the many designs of Rad Hourani who has majored in the production of unisex clothes. Gender performativity is among the theories used to subvert the stereotype on gendered dressing. The theory attempts to disambiguate the gender roles in cultures. Fashion's relation to this is theory fosters the design and production of unisex attire. This is since the roles of the members of the society, whether masculine or feminine are slowly merging. The culture assigns the two groups their roles based on the looming trends (Crane, 2001, 28). Presently, the culture has evolved and men and women can interchangeably play various role. The theory therefore provides a platform where the two genders are free to clad freely regardless of the boundaries set by traditional stereotypes (Frueh, 2001, 128).Camp is the other theory that has triggered major changes in the fashion industry. Camp r efers to the humor or agility that is created by a design to its viewer (Efrat, 1995, 46). It is the aesthetic sensibility that matters here; how much the audience finds it ridiculous. As earlier mentioned, men seem ridiculous in feminine attire (Frueh, 2001, 41). This therefore contributes to the designing and production of more attire especially for theatrical purposes. Other humorous attire would be the unisex type (Crane, 2001, 95). The lady in the photo displays a design that would s...

Concrete is known for being an enticing building material because of its economic availability. While steel and wood can be expensive, reinforced concrete has consistently proven to be cheaper and efficient. When forms go beyond rigid structure, reinforced concrete provides the next level of opportunities blurring the line between structure and architecture. This gray zone is where the capabilities of structural art falls. Within reinforced concrete building, pre-fabricated systems link the desire to economically create sculptural design that continues a relationship with classical architecture. Reinforced concrete holds the potential to bridge the expressiveness of design with the functionality of monumentality. Many saw the building collapsing due to lack of proper support. Despite these original pessimistic opinions, the cinema has made it through years of weathering and the shelling during World War II. It wasn t until a year later he was commissioned for his first major project. The Italian royal Air Force contracted the structural engineer/architect to build a set of six airplane hangars. The program called for a series of ribbed vaults with a geodetic structure to house military equipment. Nervi’s solution called for a number of overlapping arches that spanned the length of 50 meters. The results were impeccable. An entire hangar could stretch the length of 330 feet by 130 feet with no supporting pillars. Nervi had devised an experiment that mirrored the initial schemes for the Ciampino Airport in Rome, and tested the overlapping arches strategy. By fully researching the building method through drawings and scale models, he was able to efficiently approach construction of the structures. This included pre casting a majority of the fo rms on site which cut back on material waste. The building yard had become a prefabrication work area for the lightweight joints of the ribs so the limited resources could be given to the load bearing bases. The context of the poem gives it the emotional connection and remembrance that so many Americans know and honor each year. The tone of sadness could also be a direct correlation to Walt Whitman’s evolving writing style that changed throughout his later years. A good friend of Whitman’s, William Osler, told Whitman â€Å"to live by the motto ‘carpe diem - make hay while the sun shines’ - a theme that permeated the poetry of younger Whitman. The aging Whitman did not always appreciate the advice.† (Nelson 111) This connection between Whitman and his writing plays a big part in the writing process. The tone is the attitude of the piece of work generally intended by the author. Although the rhetoric of the poem â€Å"O Captain! Restaurant Management and Reservation Systems †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Restaurant Management and Reservation Systems. Answer: Introduction Human resource functions are considered to be one of the most important functions of any organization. The human resource of an organization tends to determine the basis for all other functions in an organization and it is extremely important for the firm to see to it that it performs better than its competitors (Krajcsk and Gykr 2013). The given report will be elaborating on the various human resource aspects of the company named FedEx Corporations. Aspects of human resource will be analyzed and recommendations will be provided for the same. FedEx is one of the most reputed and trusted brands in the dynamics of supply chain services. The company provides shipping and information services to customers. They are extremely consistent about the quality of the products they provide. Not only is the company beneficial for the customers, it is also very considerate about the employees and has been acclaimed as the best company to work in (Fedex.com. 2018).The Company has its headquarters in Tennessee and the name stands for Federal Express. The company also engages in overnight shipping and has a pioneering tracking system. FedEx has always followed a simple method of recruiting people. They want those employees in the organization who are willing to take risks and have the entrepreneurship quality in them. Their recruitment and selection process is extremely simple with a systematic approach for each stage. The company hires candidates from leading universities of those countries it operates in. The company also has a successful internship program whereby it prepares employees for the future of the organization. It is estimated that due to its growing operations, the company hires around 25000 employees annually. In 2001, FedEx changed the age old method of an application form process and started a new method whereby it automated its application and screening process by developing an online application method which could be availed by Career Center tab on its website- www.fedex.com. The company has openings in several positions like aviation maintenance, administrative support, e-commerce, finance, Human Resource, Communication and service agents. The applicants can apply for any position as they may find relevant. After a group of panelists screen the applications received, those who are shortlisted are sent through an aptitude test in mathematics, English and reasoning which is then followed by an interview (Bratton and Gold 2017). The candidates who successfully complete the three stages are then offered an employment opportunity at FedEx. The online system reduced the process time by 50%. It also made it easier to follow up and check the references. By following this method, the system also enabled that the application forms were fully complete (Chelladurai and Kerwin 2017). FedEx`s system gave rise to other companies opting for the same online method. If compared against the industry standards, it can be stated that FedEx has the best recruitment and selection program globally Cascio (2018), stated FedEx as the best place to work in. However, certain suggestions for improvement have been provided below: The company can look out for other recruitment sources other than just campus recruitments. There are various job placement agencies which have a profile of a large pool of candidates which can be put to good use. This shall also help those employees who do not have access to technology which can help them to still find a great opportunity at FedEx. It can use video interview as a method for interviewing the employees from different countries. This shall save costs for the employees as well as the recruiters. Achieving high performance from the new employees The new employees in an organization need to be kept motivated so that they perform well and the productivity of the firm increases. For this purpose, the new employees at the organization need to undergo a good training and development program (Kvamme et al. 2013). FedEx aims to impart proper training and development so that the employees could handle the tasks which were allotted to them. This training covers a wide range of areas like imparting job related skills, developing their work ethics and others. During these sessions, the employees undergo an orientation program which gives them an idea about the philosophy and programs at FedEx. After a general training is given, the employees are then sent for a specialized training whereby they are provided job specific training and the managers under whom the employees would perform were also present so that a bond can be created between them (Alfes et al. 2013). FedEx believes that their training program works in two ways. Not only does it help in long term retention of the employees, but also helps in improving the performance of the employees. The company also sends the higher level executives for educational programs, thereby paying for their fees. This is the reason experts believe that the company is the best working place for any employee because the firm believes in developing the organization through development of the people. This gives a two way objective and works as an effective method to improve the performance of the new employees. As compared to its competitors in the similar industry, the method adopted by FedEx can be described as adequate. However, certain recommendations to improve this practice have been given below: Delegate responsibilities- The top management can give out the responsibilities to the different employees and help to develop in the business environment. If they are able to do so then they will be able to become better individuals and learn automatically (Mok, Sparks and Kadampully 2013). Keeping goals clear and focused- The firm should also help the employees to focus on their career goals and help them to remain focused. Effective communication- The organization should follow a system of effective communication whereby it should continuously communicate with the employees and handle their grievances to achieve better success. Achieving affective commitment from the employees Affective commitment can be described as an employee`s attachment to the given organization. This affective commitment aims to be the desire component of organizational commitment. It is believed that an employee who is affectively committed will be able to strongly identify with the goals of the organization and also remain with the organization with a long period of time. FedEx understands the importance of getting the commitment from the employees and makes it a point o provides benefits to the employees in a manner such that they always remain highly attached to the organization (Purce 2014). The practices adopted by the organization are as follows: Outings- FedEx often takes it employees for an office excursion or an office picnic. This plays the role of a team development and also makes the employees feel valued and a part of the organization (Alfes et al. 2013). As these are paid by the organization, the employees tend to feel associated with the company and thereby become more committed towards the goals of the organization. Incentives- When the employees are provided with incentives for a higher performance then these employees tend to perform even between and become committed towards the goals of the organization (Marchington et al. 2016). They start believing that the organization wants to take good care of them and then they are influenced to return the favor back. Work environment- The work environment at FedEx is very motivated and the employees are often rewarded for their efforts which make them feel associated with the cause f the business. As compared to the industry standards and the international companies, FedEx the employees at FedEx are highly committed towards the cause of the organization. Methods to improve the FedEx practices even further have been provided as follows: Restructuring of Payment systems The restructuring of payment systems can be done in order to increase the affective commitment of the employees. The payment system of FedEx is based on a personal base rate and performance related base. Generally, companies offer a low base rate and highly stress on performance based rates. According to, personal rates are the main motivators behind the commitment of the individual and not the performance based rates. If the personal rates are quite low then the employees may not necessarily become attached to the employees thinking that the company is not doing enough for them. Cross cultural management At FedEx, diversity is highly appreciated. As the company has various branches throughout the globe from Harlem to Hongkong and San Paulo to Sydney, FedEx has built its organizational base on connecting people places and cultures (Walker 2016). The company believes in cultural and diversity management because the organization serves the diverse consumer base and hence, they feel that it is a duty to celebrate the diversity in the organization itself. The company was founded on a people first basis and it has always been believed that the business practice should have respect from people from different backgrounds and cultures. Within its realm, FedEx stands for objectives such as: Attracting top talent Developing the talent available Focusing on quality rather than quantity Investing in communities The following diversity and cultural aspects can be taken into consideration with respect to FedEx`s cultural initiative: More than 50% of its workforce in the United States are minorities The company has a wide supplier based diversity program and has been ranked 13th on the 2017 best workplaces to work in. The company has Gloria R. Boyland, Shannon A. Brown and Matthew Thornton III who are African American executives It is also the best place for the LGBTQ Equality The company believes that it is the right thing to promote diversity practices and for this reason they tend to do so. There are no recommendations for the same as the company is already performing extremely well. Leadership Another aspect of the Human Resource Management aspect at FedEx is the leadership. The company provides shipping solution to a wide number of customers worldwide. FedEx functions on the formula that only if the employees are engaged effectively into the goals and objectives of the organization and who are able to connect to it and have a strong desire to contribute towards the success of the organization will help the firm in achieving new heights and grow with time (Sinha and Kumar 2016). FedEx functions on a simple concept that the companies who want to grow need to hire efficient people who have the ability to develop bonds with the people thereby ensuring long term success. For the above reasons, the Leadership style followed at FedEx is `People First. In the given People First philosophy, the employees are given utmost importance and they are allowed to take independent decisions which would then help them to make efficient decisions for the firm and its welfare. This is one of the aspects of FedEx whereby it makes use of an innovative management style thereby motivating its employees and has a full concentration on the productivity of the firm. FedEx was one of the first organizations to implement this procedure and therefore, it has received wide acclamation from around the globe (Grant 2016). However, given below are certain recommendations for the organization: Stress on Quality- The employers should stress on the quality of the work to improve the customer service(Armstrong and Taylor 2014). Very often the companies only tend to focus on the quantity and stress the employees, however this should not be the case and the company must stress on the quality primarily. Appreciate- Whenever an organization performs well, the focus should be on appreciating them. This appreciation would then help the firm to increase the overall performance of the firm and motivate the employees as well (McDermott et al. 2013). Conclusion Therefore from the given analysis it could be analyzed that FedEx , a leading company in the globe. It is one of the most desirable places for working and has been at the top of the charts for a long period of time. The report could convey that the human resource practices at FedEx are one of the most optimum ones in all aspects. The firm has a well defined recruitment and selection process along with a well designed performance management scheme. However, certain recommendations for further improvement have also been provided. It can be stated that the company has been doing well as compared to its competitors. Emersonian Influences on Ben Franklins Autobiography free essay sample

He was independent and determined, rising above the poverty in which he and his fourteen other brothers and sisters were raised. Due to the lack of balances In his family, Franklin was removed from all Institutions of formal Instruction and had to rely upon himself to obtain a quality education. Franklin stated in his autobiography, [h]paving emerged from the poverty and obscurity in which I was born and bred to a state of affluence with a considerable share of felicity, the conducting means I made use of, which with the blessing of God so well succeeded (Franklin 321).Franklin did not let this hinder is ambition for perfection, for his desires pushed him forward as an Individualist and his natural talents ensured his personal success. Regardless of his financial state and his ancestral history of poverty, Franklin was determined to educate himself in the arts of literature, science and invention. Being fond of study and reading, Franklin stated that all the little money that came in to my hands was ever laid in books (323). By mimicking styles, rewriting and comparing his work to authors such as Daniel Defoe, Sir Richard Burton, and Cotton Matter, Franklin irked his way up the verbal success ladder. While still working for his older brother, Franklin started submitting anonymous works to the New England Currant in order to get acquainted with the business. Diligence and hard work eventually paid off for Franklin; thanks to his self-imposed education and trust in his natural abilities, Franklin founded The Pennsylvania Gazette in 1730. Franklin achieved the unthinkable In his lifetime because he did not stop, as so many would, when he was met with adversity. Franklin did not conform to societys standard by giving up when faced with a barrier.Instead of quitting, he acted as a transcendentalist would have: [t]rust thyself; every heart vibrates to that iron string. Accept the place the divine providence has found for you, the society of your contemporaries, and connection of events (Emerson 934). Franklin trusted his own Instincts and natural skills. He had full confidence In his on his family to financially support and educate him. Rather, Franklin trusted in his own capabilities and surged forward in society, and later emerged as one of the greatest politicians, inventors, and scholars known to man-kind.Emerson also states in his essay, Self-Reliance, [t]here is a time in every mans education when he arrives at the conviction that new is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion (Emerson 934). In other words, one must not conform to what society dictates as necessity. One must be content with his own individual and natural blessings and feel free to explore those gifts without feeling apologetic to the surrounding societal norms: Man is timid and apologetic.. . He does not live in the present, but with reverted eye laments about the past (Emerson 941).One should not hold back their true nature because it is not the standard, on the contrary, Emerson explains that one should speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again (Emerson 937). Furthermore, Emerson says that we should affront and reprimand the smooth mediocrity and squalid contentment of the times, and hurl in the face of custom, and trade, and office, the fact which is the upshot of all history, that there is a great responsible Thinker and Actor working wherever man works (Emerson 938).This is precisely what Franklin did in his lifetime; he agonized his potential and did not settle for mediocrity. He did not follow traditions; he trusted himself and created a new tradition, the American Dream. Even after his success as an inventor and a scholar, Franklin did not let pride overcome his senses. Just as Emerson avidly protested measuring ones worth by material possession and by what one has; he proclaimed, [a] political victory, a rise of rents, the recovery of your sick or the return of your absent friend, or some other favorable event, raises your spirits, and you think good days are preparing for you.Do not believe it. Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you to peace but the triumph of principles (Emerson 949). Franklin accepted these transcendental ideals; for he did not measure his success based on his social status or material wealth. Instead, he sought moral perfection. Franklin stated after opening his own press, it was about this time I conceived to the bold and arduous project of arriving at moral perfection. I wished to live without committing any fault any time; I would conquer all that either natural inclination, custom, or company might lead me into (Franklin 343).Franklin became a real doubter in many points of Religious doctrine (Franklin 325), yet believed in moral perfection and principles, Just as Emerson did. Franklin understood that to be at peace with oneself and to truly benefit mankind, one would have to go against custom, if necessary, to uphold certain moral principles. Franklin listed thirteen virtues in which he focused on one at a time, he planned to fix on one of them at a time; and, when [he] should be the master of that, then to proceed to another, and so on, till [he] should have gone through the thirteen (Franklin 344).

Why Australian organizations must adopt sustainability reporting in the 21st century

In the 21st century, there has been increased need to consider current generation sustainability without limiting future generations’ capability to satisfy their needs. Different drivers compel organizations to give their sustainability reports periodically; Irja Vormedal and Audun 2006 note, â€Å"While the first wave of reporting in the 1990s was characterized by the growth of ‘pure’ environmental disclosures, companies have increasingly expanded their focus to reporting on sustainability more broadly† (Irja and Audun 2006).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Why Australian organizations must adopt sustainability reporting in the 21st century specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More According to 2005 World Summit on environment, sustainability is attained when environmental, social and economic demands of human kind have been addressed at equal portions/degrees. Irja Vormedal and Audun Ruud, further notes that one area that has taken centre stage in corporate social responsibility is steady increase in the volume and size of corporate non-financial disclosures over the past decades; when making the disclosures, firms communicate the efforts they have enacted to support sustainable development (Vormedal and Audun, 2009). This paper discusses why Australian organization should adopt sustainability reporting in the 21st century. Literature review: the reasons for adopting sustainability reporting According to Irja Vormedal and Audun Ruud, 2006, in the article â€Å"Sustainability Reporting in Norway – an Assessment of Performance in the Context of Legal Demands and Socio-Political Drivers,† published in Business Strategy and the Environment journal states that the need to have sustainable reporting is driven by a number of economic and social drivers depending with the nation and the market that a company operates. Market mechanisms have affected the gr owth of ethical, social, and environmental investments, with advancement in technological knowledge and education, customers have learnt the role that organizations play on sustainability. With the information, customers through social drivers have placed pressure on organization to disclose information on their social, environmental and ethical performance from stakeholder groups. Irja Vormedal and Audun Ruud seems to have concentrated on the pressure that customers have on organizations to report their sustainable policies; according to customer relation management strategy, customers need to perceive organizations in a positive manner if they are to continue trading with them. According to Lena Geraghty, Network Manager, Focal Point Australia, Global Reporting Initiative, when organizations adopt sustainable reporting, it can be benchmarked with its peers. The writer is of the opinion that when an organization has adopted sustainable reporting, then the company becomes competitiv e among its peers.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Sustainable reporting thus is a competitive tool that organizations should adopt; it focuses on developing a healthy relationship between an organization and its target customers. Customers are the backbone of an organization, any effort that is likely to improve the relationship between an organization and its customers should always be welcomed. Organizations that have attained good relationship with their customers led to customer loyalty. Good customer/organization relationship is a strong marketing and competitive tool that organizations should adopt (Slater and Glibert ,2004). Ans Kolk in the article, â€Å"Sustainability, Accountability and Corporate Governance: Exploring Multinationals’ Reporting Practices’† is of the view that global financial crisis in different parts of the globe, acc ounting and remuneration scandals, and suspicion about the social and environmental implications have exerted pressure on organizations to report their suitability levels in the efforts to develop good relationships with their target market. The writers note â€Å"Largely separate from the (more traditional) approach to accountability in the context of corporate governance, sustainability reporting has developed,† (Ans, 2008). The writer further sends light to the demand that shareholders and other stakeholders in different markets and varying regulations and governance systems have placed on multinationals in the efforts of making them compliant with sustainability reporting requirements. Ans Kolk observes that demand to report ones sustainable level is a way to make organizations accountable of their actions either in production, manufacturing, or the nature and system they use to sell commodities. When sustainable reports have been produced by organizations, it becomes eas y for the government to devise mechanisms and policies to facilitate the growth of good corporate governance and sustainable development measures (Ans, 2008). In the words of Isenmann, Christoph Welter, 2007 â€Å"Reporting makes it possible for companies to obtain in-depth information on the target groups heterogeneous information needs† (Isenmann, Christoph Welter, 2007). The writers are outlining the benefits that organizations derive when they report their sustainability accountability level. The said benefits can be beneficial to Australian organizations. How organizations approach the planning and implementation of sustainability reporting According to Perogo, P. ,2009 â€Å" An increasing number of companies disclose information about their social and environmental performance in, so-called, sustainability reports to demonstrate a commitment to corporate responsibility† (Perogo, 2009). The challenge that organizations are facing is looking at the right approac h, which they can use to report their sustainability reports.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Why Australian organizations must adopt sustainability reporting in the 21st century specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More To report effectively, there is need for some level of uniformity among organizations, industries, and nations; The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has made great progress in developing a common framework of sustainable reporting. The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework seeks to address internal and external environment/matters to address issues at hand (Owen, 2006). The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting advice mechanism identifies five main steps that need to be adopted when planning and implementing sustainable reporting in an organization, they are: Preparation: the stage involves undertaking an internal analysis of business processes and operations and their effect to the environment; the effect may be negative or positive. The internal analysis offers a deep insight of the business level strategy that an organization should implement. Connection: this second stage involves seeking stakeholders inputs on the best strategy that they feel would work for the benefit of the company; at this stage a draft of final report is made considering the driving parameters that will be included in the final report (Tregidga and Milne, 2006) Definition: the stage involves a further polishing of factors/parameters that have been given by management in the first stage and those that stakeholders have shown interest in the second stage. At this point the structure and direction of the report has already been shaped. Monitoring: this involves undertaking massive reports, information, and data then relating it to the level of business operation for the final report. According to GRI, organizations should ensure they have quality reporting principles to develop a concret e and reliable report. Communication: with the data and information on the main principle in stage four at hand, the management goes further and gives an account of level of sustainability of a company; the stage involves the preparation and writing of the final report and seeking the best method to communicate the same to the community (Lena, 2009).Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Australian organizations that have adopted sustainability reporting Although sustainability reporting is a developing field in Australian companies, there are some companies that have already adopted the methodology, they include Abigroup Construction limited and Lend-Lease Limited (both are in the construction industry). At every end of financial year, Abigroup Construction limited ensures that alongside its financial report it has given an account of how it has affected the environment as wells as the efforts that it had undertaken to improve the operating environment. The company’s management is keen to note the changes its operations have on the operating environment may it being customers, employees, the environment, and stakeholders in general. In the company’s history of 50 years, it only made its first sustainability report in 2009 and the second one in 2010. According to David Jurd, the company has entered into various collaborations with international and dom estic companies to guide them on the way forward on sustainable reporting. Lend-Lease Limited has embraced the spirit of sustainable development reporting and ensures that all its operations looks into environmental, social, ethical and financial dimensions of the business. The company has enacted different community based activities that aims at looking into the general welfare of the society and ensuring that they have compensated for their damage of the environment. The company’s sustainability reports are posted in the internet for easy access and comparability (Perogo, 2009). Comparison and contrast of Abigroup Construction limited and Lend-Lease Limited approaches to sustainability reporting According to Abigroup Construction Limited sustainability policy, the main objective of the company is to balance growth and long term business success with social and environmental responsibilities; when making the report, the company gives an account of the efforts to promote sust ainability that it has adopted. When adopting policies, the company ensures that it has done so in light with reviews and feedbacks from stakeholders from previous year’s report. The company ensures that it has structured its reporting approach to be in line with the specifications of Global Reporting Initiative. The areas that the company look into when reporting its sustainability include people/leadership, the society, business, our people and the environment (Sinclair and Walton, 2003). On the other hand, sustainability policy is aimed at ensuring that environmental, social, ethical and financial impacts of every decision we made has been analyzed. The approach aims at doing business in a way that would not have a negative impact on the people or the company. According to the company’s sustainability reporting approach, the company enacts into some projects that range from independently green-rated buildings to creating long-term job opportunities for local communi ties, construction of the so called â€Å"green houses†, constructing carbon-zero, and enacting the benchmarks of sustainable reporting that can be adopted internationally (Solomon and Lewis, 2002). The main similarity between Abigroup Construction limited and Lend-Lease Limited is that both encompass the concept of stewardship in sustainable development. Both companies are guided by frameworks set out by The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI); when preparing current period sustainability reports, the companies’ business leaders review responses/feedbacks by stakeholders on the previous report.
